After reading some Twitter posts and thinking about my own life, I think that everything happens in either Teological or Stellar times not just one or the other. It seems that Teological time is predominant since most people, including myself, seem to live daily life and take actions that are linear and lead to an end. However, as we progress we are sometimes faced with situations that just do not seem to make sense if we were to view life as linear. Someone may say something that leaves an impression but we are left wondering "What was that all about?" I think when people are faced with personal tragedies they try to understand the meaning or purpose of the event but are not necessarily able to do so.
Arabian Nights
1. I think twitter is a great way for people to keep their friends and family up-to-date on what they are doing right at this moment. It has no influence on me but I can see why some people might like it. In our world today it is difficult to keep in contact with all friends because of work, family, school and other obligations. So Twitter is a way for somebody to just enter information really quickly and everybody who follows the “Tweets” knows what’s going on in their friend’s life.
What bothers me about it is that everybody can see everything all the time. Some things are just private thoughts or feelings that should be discussed in person and not over the World Wide Web.
I have to say I was a bit affected by what my peers wrote, because it is interesting to know what people are thinking about at certain points in time. That’s probably something that they would otherwise never share during a regular conversation.
In reference to the type of time used at Twitter, I would say teleological because there is a purpose and a beginning and end to the posts. Most people posted what they were doing at the point or during the day all setup in linear time.
2. In the stories I read I would say that teleological time is used. In “The Thief and the Shroff” a thief tries to steal a bag of gold pieces from a shroff. He goes about it very cleverly and waits till the shroff is at home and leaves the bag with gold on the counter while he goes to the bathroom. After the thief presents his price to his friends, they convince him to bring the gold back so that the slave girl won’t be punished for stealing it. He makes up a scheme and goes back to return the gold pieces but in the end he saves the girl and keeps the gold. I think this shows a beginning of that particular story following through to the end. But as with all of Scheherazade’s tales, this one is interwoven with the next one and so forth which makes it entropic / chaotic time as well, because in the end, nobody knows anymore what the main story was and how we got to the last story. The stories are completely random. All she tries to do is keep the sheik happy and live another night.
3. I think in 1001 Nights women are portrayed as cheating and mean creatures but also as having wit like Scheherazade that can outsmart even a king by telling him 1001 stories in as many nights and bearing him 3 children while doing that.
A lot has changed for women in Arabian countries especially in recent years. They are now almost equal to men. They can work outside the home if they want to. I think the Islam has a lot to do with that because it teaches everyone to have respect for each other men and women alike. There still is the Sharia (Islamic Law) though that prohibits women in leadership, so that means only men are capable to lead. Arab women are also very underrepresented in parliament and other political institutions, but in my opinion that is still even so in the United States.
Then there are still areas in the Arabian world were women are not allowed to travel alone or must seek the consent of the husband when they want to leave the country (Example: the movie “not without my daughter” with Sally Field).

1. Twitter has become a nationalwide phenomenon, peer presure makes most people jump into it, and started to share their daily lives. You can use Twitter to share your personal opinion, happiness or sadness from a sentence that comes from their minds. This is my first time to use Twitter, but it is not so interesting or useful as I thought. Everyone has their own lives and their lives might not interest you or that thoughts might not be the tastes of you. I did post something on Twitter as well, "my friend asks me out, but I couldn't go cause I have so many works to do." People might think that is stupid or meaningless. Everyone is different, my words might affect you to sit tight to do your work instead to go out. Accounting to my Twitter's experience, everyone lives in the stellar time.
2. I love the story named "The fishman and the jinni." It paints an attractive picture in my head. The story is about how an old fishman from poor to be wealth. It might not just a coincidence that the god gave him because of his pray. It happened because of his intelligence, wiseness and courage that he has when he is facing the danger. Everything that happened are followed by the regular time. The things that happened step by step. If he caught the Jinni four hunderd years ago, he wouldn't suffer in danger, and he would just become wealth directly. His two daughter may be too young to marry to the king. They may live in another type of the happy or unhappy life. From the progress that the story happens, we can easily see the time of the story is using both teleological time and entropic time.
3. In the tale of the Three Apples. The husband went far away from his home in order to buy some apple for his sick wife. He did it just because his wife loves and wants to eat apples. However, he killed his own wife because he saw a black slave's carrying one of the apple that he bought. The fact is that his son stole from his mother and the slave robbed it from the boy. In the regular law, the man who killed his wife should be the one who will be punished. However, the judge declared that the man who killed his wife is innocent, and he is free to leave. Then who should be the one needs to be punished? The answer is the black slaver!! In the culture of Islamic. The men are the cores of the househood. They are able to in charge of everything. Women have no power, but need to treat their men well, and listen to their men. I believe the " rules" still work today. How come the Islamis women can't show their face or skin? This is so mean and unfair. Isn't it "All men are created equal?" I feel pity for all Islamis women, and I hope they will have their freedom one day!

1. I feel as though twitter has had no impact on my life. People on twitter post basically, in my opinion meaningless activities. Nonetheless, the only thing that even fazed me was posted by professor millstein. Her post about how people do not want Thomas Jefferson being taught in schools anymore. Other than that people mostly posted about how they have a lot of work to do, myself included, and I feel as though this is meaningless. Using twitter has had no effect on me. I like using other networking websites such as facebook because it does not soley rely on simply udpating people about what i am doing at the current time, i feel like people using twitter frequently are just looking for something to keep them occupied and it keeps them from really trying to go out and make freinds because they can just stay updated on other people lives. Furthermore, i feel as though the only thing that i gained form using twitter was staying updated on the New York Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez and his tweets, this only because he updated me on transactions the jets made. Moreover, i feel like stellar time would probably be the best way to describe the time on twitter. I believe this because everyones life have to be going on in this manner. People do live their lives in unison with other, people do not just do somehting and then wait for someone else to do somehting to proceed to their next endevor people and time work together.
2. In 1001 nights i feel like teological time is most prevelant throughout the story. i feel like the author attempted to connect all fo the three stories being told. The merchant is telling a story to Jinni. Also, i feel like the author is attempting to tell a story which i felt was pretty cliche. this being the story of good against evil. This was evidnet to me when telling about the king. The narrarator and her two brothers were given one thousand dollars each after their father passed. One of the brothers took the money and went traveling. This is all events that are happening in succession. They are happening over a given period of time and arent really connected with eachother. To add the teological time is considered cause and effect so, the linear timing goes as so, the father dies and then money is inherited, this clearly supports the notion that the story is being told in teological timing.

In the tale of the bull and the ass, the wife tries coercing the husband into divulging information regarding his perculiar laugh, the husband is then informed that he has the choice of having sverl wives, so he in essence would just need get a new wife and doesnt even need to keep his current one. Nonetheless, in islamic culture women are treated poorly and that in todays culture somehting like this would not happen. I really didnt like this story because in my opinion a man should not be told what he has to do by anyone especailly his wife when she is viewed as a second class citizen in her culture. 1 - It seems that everyone has a different daily activity, and everyone is involved in a different event all the time, one is studying, others are working, partying, complaining, some have questions. But at the same time some events are related to one person to another person, such as school activity, asking how a test or your opinion about something that you have interest, talking about the weather… and so forth. At some points it seems that we are in the stellar time, but only if there is an interest or if is something related to what you are participating. And at some instances our lives are not connected at all (entropic), if we didn’t participate and have no interest to whatever is going on we would not pay attention or be affected to what is going on.
2 -I felt that the narrator was trying to connect her situation with the story from the beginning to the end, she used the theological time, she has an intention for two purposed telling the stories to the king, the first would be that she tells the story linking to the next story making him curious to what will happen next and by telling the story she tries to influence his idea of killing someone and forgiving. While reading the tale of the trader and the Jinni, when the trader goes back to pay his “debt” to the Ifrit, three other characters come to the story and each tries to help him by telling what happened to them and who each animals were before they became animals, and why they became animals, in exchange for a fraction of the trader. All of them seems related because a women always takes part of the story, and an act of betrayal. Which made it sound that even someone stabs in the back you should learn how to forgive, or to spare the life, and that there are alternatives to punish a person.

Throughout time, women were able to gain respect and be part of the “men” society. Today they are somewhat equally treated, not in all aspects but from what it was before, where women had a worse punishment for a same crime committed by a men, from being a “property” of a men, sold and bought in exchange of money, they have overcome and “gained” a lot of respect and right. Fisherman and the Jinni
- Anything from works, lives, experiences, and others in the posts have been reflected from each individual twitter’s users in their daily activities. For the most part, it is random view or chaotic events, which each person see it as “come in and go out” without reflecting of its cause and effect as well as the existence of God doing. With that, We just look at things as “not God doing” and it is our own understanding about how the world works. Take AnjaUskeas an example (I hope the author agrees with my uses), said that Mama was going to buy us our second crib and mattress for the babies. Yeah. Thats the most expensive part on the registry. The author as the same goes with all of us, we first look at that the event is necessary as for mom to buy those things to her babies, and no one who thinks about God in giving his hands in making the event to happen. The events reported in the twitters are not only chaotic times, but it also creates the stellar time in which twitter’s users are being affected by what the other written in the posts. AS mine for example, I noticed the comment of ginnyjiang(I hope the author agrees with my uses) saying that “Sunday is my family time! Enjoyyyyyyyyyyyy it!” Sunday is no- related to anyone behaviors, but it changes our perception of what Sunday is really mean to another person. It does affect my own behavior that I want to come back to VietNam this summer, for it has been two and a half year that I have not met my family, and it recalls of my old memories that I had dinner with my family on every Sunday.
- The stories are interwoven together making the readers lose a sense, but all it gives a golden meaning in life. The Fisherman and the Jinni starts off with the poor fisherman went to the shore cast his net four times a day, each time he pray his God “Allah.” On his first attempt, he caught the dead donkey. Second time, he cast a full of dirt. Third time, he again pulled out the sand and mud. Before the last attempt, he said “the third is done and as yet Thou hast vouchsafed me nothing” to God, and he had with his a yellow cooper jar with the seal of OUR Lord Sulayman in which later the fishermen opened the cap to determine the value of its treasure. Then, a Jinni appeared with anxiety of being punished by the Sulayman, and the fishermen explained that his Lord Sulayman died for centuries ago, but instead of grant the wishes for having rescue the Jinni out of the jar after 1800 years in darkness, Jinni offers the choices or manner to the death of the fishermen. The fishermen warned that Allah will punish the Jinni for any wrong toward his “Spare my life, so Allah spare shine, and slay me not, lest Allah set one to slay thee”, but it was all for nothing. Thus, he used his keen “This is Jinni; and I am a man to whom Allah hath given a passably cunning wit, so I will now cast about to compass his destruction by my contrivance and by intelligence” to lure the Jinni back to the bottle by questioning about the Jinni real power. The fishermen explained the reason why he want to throw the bottle out the sea with the story of “The Wazir and the Sage Duban.” The story began with Sage Duban as the only person can help to cure the Yunnan King’s lep after all other magnificent medicine men have failed. After the treatment with no pains, the King gave Sage lot of gold pieces and awards, and they were like friends. However, the Minister envied Sage and created doubts to the King that how easily Sage can cure the disease and how threatening that at anytime the magic of Sagan can take the King life. At first the King told the story “King Sindibad and his Falcon” to mention that the Falcon helped the Sindibad not to mistaken drinking the poison of the venom of viper from with the tree dropping water, and the Falcon three times swung the wings to drop the liquid from Sindibad. He soon cut of falcon’s wings and later caught sights of the dropping water as venom above his head, he cried out for the sakes of his falcon after the falcon died later after that. “the Tale of the Husband and the Parrot,” summarized the same meaning with Parrot helping the husband about his mistress’s cheating, but the Parrot was killed from misunderstanding. Both stories provided the readers as to Jinni that the fishermen like Parrot and Falcon should be treated well after help Jinni getting out of the bottle. Coming back with the Minister, he convinced the King that killing Sage was necessary with the story of “The tale of Prince and the Ogress”, in which the wicked Ogress in the jungle disguised as a strange girl to lure men and eat them. After hearing the story, the Yunna King ordered the call of Sage in to kill him, Sage begged the King like the fishermen has done with the Jinni, but all were in vain similar like Jinni insisted to kill fishermen. Sage tricked the King by telling that after cutting his head, putting it in the tray of powder and opening three leaves and reading three lines of the page to your left hand, the head will answer any question that the Yunna king desires to ask. After did the same as Sage, the King was poison by the leaves penetrating to his heart. The lesson to Jinni was that “Spare me and Allah will spare thee; slay me not or Allah shall slay thee.” After hearing all the stories from Fishermen, the Jinni begged that he definitely not betrayed him, so fishermen freed the Jinni out. In return, Jinni helped fishermen caught peculiar fishes and prompted to gave those to the King for money. Like Jinni said, fishermen got lot of money from trading, and the King was astonished by the damsel appearance every time the fishes fried. The King took a journey to where the fishermen caught them, and he went into the palace and found out half men and half stone. The King decided to kill the man’s wife after heard the story of her betraying him to go to with the slave, not only whipping him, but also turning the whole islands into mountains with people into fishes. The king killed the slave first and then disguised like the slave telling the witch to turn the prince and everyone back if not the God will keep him from speaking. Then, the king sliced the witch to two pieces. The end of the story with both the King and the Prince back home safely, and the fishermen have his two daughters get married to them. Through the whole stories, the Teleological time was used a lot, god’s name was used many time as a universal of cause and effect in any event in lives. From the time when fishermen took responsibility to throw Jinni out the sea as the God’s hand caused him to meet Jinni and to seal him again. From the time in the stories such as “The Wazir and the Sage Duban” as an eye for an eye or the God’s prompting in the begging. Everything has a purpose in life, and those stories in here God’s provides the mean of helping other and good results will come forward in your life.
- The comprehensive reports presented in this survey detail how women in MENA countries face systematic discrimination in both laws and social customs. In these Arabic stories, religious and social view did not consider about women rights, it judged women as villains and betrayal figures. 1001 Nights
1) I think stellar time most influences ours lives based on Twitter. According to my own experience participate on Twitter, I just type in whatever i want to talk about. Such as after my Management exam, i want to express about my feeling about my exam, and people respond their opinion on my wall. Twitter is a very good place to express my emotion. And people will telling her experience about the exam. People also talk about their school work in Twitter, such as when was the due day for online question. What happeded in the accounting tutor class. How was the weather and so on. Twitter is a place people can communicate each other. People make conversation on Twitter by asking the question and response the question. It also is a place to express personal expression, share experience and other people will also share their own experience with you. Our lives are all make up with these little things. When you separate them, it is one thing, but when you combine them, it is our lives.

A woman in Islam has the right to knowledge and education.
