Twitter, Husband & the Parrot, Bull & the Ass and the pattern of time.
- I have never thought that I will ever open a Twitter account and I also will be using it such as posting personal reflections experiences etc. But my professor had made it happen. By using Twitter the experience that I have got is kind of different and I can say not boring but nothing much exciting so far. People including myself and my classmates are articulating their daily lives and activities which makes is seems like that the World is really becoming smaller and interactive. I would like to mention that Twitter did not have any direct affect on me but some of the responses did make my mind change I also think that all these scenarios make me live in Teleological/Stellar time. I am mentioning stellar time because what and how we share our thoughts in Twitter, which does affect each other in a way. It is also teleological because what we are posting it has a cause and then it effects others when they read it and responses on top of it. It’s amazing how all the social network sites connect people that most of the time they never know each other and most of the time they never get to meet in person. One more important thing I noticed that people do not keep much privacy. So am I. I didn’t keep any privacy to when I was talking about my personal life such as being away from my husband and child. About Twitter, my opinion will be that things happen for reason. After I started using Twitter, I have become more open-minded, became less reluctant to expose my feelings which indirectly affecting others too. People are also connecting with each other by the affects of their shared reflection of their lives.
- The stories of 1001 are intermingled of different inventional stories which mean that there are small stories inside of large stories and it has steadiness. Most of the stories are taken from Arabic customs and to understand the themes of those stories we would need to pay good attention to that culture. The story The Tale of the Husband and the Parrot fits an ideal example for an Arabic society. In that story the Husband loves his wife so much which leads to tremendous amount of jealousy. He managed to get a parrot to keep on eye to his wife while he goes away. Later on he finds out from his parrot that his wife had cheated him with a Turkish man. He then violently beats up his wife kills her and as well as the Turkish man. This kind of example depicts about the power of an Arabic husband towards his wife. In some of the Arabic tradition men are meant to be the one and only powerful and in-charge of the house. Women have no rights, they are treated like an object and they are also bound to listen and obey their husband. Such as in the story The Tale of the Husband and the Parrot, the observance of Islam has a similarity and it is obvious that men are higher than women because they can not go against men. Even though to punish their wives, if it takes them to kill her that wouldn’t be a big deal because they are ordered through Quran. There as a form of Teleological time been seen at this story which has a cause and affect with a beginning that leads to an end relating to an intention of life. http://en.allexperts.com/q/Arab-Culture-2719/Arabian-women.htm
- In the 1001 reading there are stories within stories, they are interrelated, and big role of destiny is apparent. A perfect example is the story of the Bull and the Ass which demonstrates the adorns for animals. It is a story of a farmer who is given power to interpret animal language. This is a story where the Bull nags to another animal Donkey that the amount of hard work he has to do. After listening this, the Donkey tries to suggest the Bull how can he escape himself from not doing the work. But the frame hears their discussion and makes the Donkey do all the work that the Bull has to do. Then the story takes a dramatic move when the Donkey cleverly puts back the Bull in the previous situation. At the same time the farmer makes fun on them by laughing at them which makes his wife upset, and we can see another story starts with the farmer and his wife where the farmer instructed by a dog in relation to his wife. Then the farmer decides to leak the secret about the gifted power by the cost of his life because of his love towards his wife was remarkable. From the dog’s advice he realizes that he does adore his wife so much that it is not necessary to tell every secrets of his life. These two stories seem to have a teleological time where we can see cause and effect takes a place in order. Beginning is leading to the end. http://www.islamfortoday.com/ruqaiyyah09.htm
